Men's Basketball Treks to Morehead State to Start Road Trip

MACON – After snagging the first win of the season on the road at Chicago State, the Mercer men's basketball team (1-1) will travel to Kentucky to play at Morehead State (1-2) on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.

| The Bears dropped their season opener against Clark Atlanta 71-64, but bounced back three days later to defeat Chicago State, 66-61. The Bears never lost the lead in that game, and only allowed one tie. Redshirt senior forward Jalyn McCreary and graduate transfer guard Robby Carmody led the team in scoring with 18 points apiece—a career high for Carmody. Mercer and Morehead State met in Macon in December of 2022 with the Bears taking an easy win, 79-52. The first matchup in December 2002 was in Morehead and resulted in a 89-67 Mercer win. |

| Morehead State opened its season with a 105-73 loss at Alabama. Mercer will play at Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m. In the Eagles' home opener, they breezed past Shawnee State, 96-40, before falling to Purdue, 87-57, two days later. The Eagles are picked as the preseason champion in the Ohio Valley Conference, led by preseason player of the year senior Mark Freeman. He averaged 15 points per game to lead the team in scoring in the 2022-23 season, but has been absent in the team's first three games. Senior Drew Thelwell, who led the team in 3-point percentage (38%) last season, was selected to the All-OVC preseason team. Graduate transfer Riley Minix has been the team's leading scorer to start the season. |
