SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 45th meeting all-time between Mercer and Georgia. Georgia leads the series 30-14. The two teams played last season in Athens, where the Bulldogs won 84-44. Georgia is making the short trip to Macon to play the Bears for the first time since November 25, 2020.
SCOUTING GEORGIA
Georgia is in its second season under head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson. The Bulldogs had a successful first year under her leadership as last season Georgia made the NCAA tournament, won 22 games, and finished in fifth-place finish in the SEC standings. Georgia went 22-12 overall and 9-7 in SEC play last season.
Georgia enters Thursday's game with a 2-1 record with its loss coming on the road to Belmont. Through the first three games of the season, the Bulldogs are averaging 68.7 points per game and allowing 64.7 points per game. They are shooting 38.0 percent from the field and have struggled from three-point range where they are shooting just 23.8 percent from deep.
Georgia returns nine players from last year's team and they welcomed four newcomers. Transfers Asia Avinger and Taniyah Thompson were each All-Conference performers at their previous schools, while Destiny Thomas averaged a double-double while at UCF last year.
Fifth-year senior Gavyn Nicholson is Georgia's returning leading scorer and rebounder from last season when she averaged 9.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. This season, Nicholson and junior guard De'Mauri Flournoy lead the Bulldogs in scoring at 12.7 points per game.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite it's best shooting performance through three games this season, the Mercer Bears were unable to slow down Clemson's offense as the Tigers defeated Mercer 90-66, Sunday afternoon from Littlejohn Coliseum.
Enjulina Gonzalez led the Bears with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting (66.7%) to go with three rebounds. Mackenzie Johnson had a good game for the Bears in the post as she had 10 points and eight rebounds. Redshirt sophomore guard Hanna Knoll came off the bench and scored nine points, going 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
NEED TO KNOW
Outside of Georgia coming to play coach Gardner and the Bears in 2020, Thursday marks the first time since 2017 that any other Georgia athletics team has made the trip to Macon to play a game at Mercer.
