LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEARS |
The Bears started this week's games with a 74-66 loss at Morehead State. The Eagles registered a 22-for-25 performance at the free throw line and used a 10-2 run early in the second half to pull away for good. Mercer registered 13 steals on Tuesday evening in Kentucky – their most pickpockets since collecting the same amount of swipes against Milligan on Nov. 11, 2022. The last time Mercer and Alabama met was Dec. 19, 2017 when the Tide held off a late charge by MU before prevailing, 80-79. Alabama leads the all-time series, 8-2, and is 5-2 at home against the Bears. |
SCOUTING REPORT |
After routing Morehead State, 105-73, the Tide similarly dominated Indiana State, 102-80, and obliterated South Alabama, 102-46. Mercer will be the last leg in a season-opening 4-game home stand for 'Bama. Alabama's Grant Nelson and Mark Sears were both a part of the (2nd Team) Preseason All-SEC squad. Nelson is one of 20 candidates on the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Watch List, and was named to the Naismith Trophy Preseason Watch List. A transfer from NDSU, he averaged 19.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game last season. Nelson nabbed scored 24 points against Morehead State. Alabama is the defending SEC Tournament Champions and was picked to win the league again in a preseason poll of the league's head coaches. Sitting at No. 22 in both the AP and Coaches Polls, the Crimson Tide is the highest-ranked opponent for the Bears in Head Coach Greg Gary's tenure. |
LOOKING AHEAD |
The Emerald Coast Classic will move to Destin, Fla. next week, and the Bears will play their first game at noon on November 24 against Tennessee State. |
