Men's Basketball Closes 2023 Road Slate at Georgia

MACON – The Mercer men's basketball team will travel to Athens on Friday to face Georgia (3-3) in an effort to hand the Dogs their first home loss of the season and bring back the Bears' (2-4) first win over UGA since 1959.Â
The game in Athens will be the team's final road game of the 2023 calendar year before returning to Macon for five home games in December. Mercer been away from Macon for the last five games.Â

| Mercer split two games at the Emerald Coast Classic in Destin, Fla., on November 24 and 25, sneaking past Tennessee State 60-59, and then falling to Western Michigan, 66-72. The Bears shot 48 percent from the field in the win over Tennessee State, led by Robby Carmody's 15 points from five 3-pointers. The game against Western Michigan featured nine lead changes and 13 tie scores, but the Broncos pulled away in the end. Forward Jalyn McCreary was named to the Emerald Coast Classic All-Tournament Team. |

| Georgia is 4-3 this season with three wins coming at home. All four of UGA's wins have come by 10 points or less, including Wednesday's 68-66 road win over Florida State. The Bulldogs returned from the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship with two losses, first to Miami by 11 and then to Providence by seven. Georgia was picked to finish 12th out of 14 in the SEC preseason rankings. Graduate transfer Noah Thomasson averages 14.3 points per game to lead the Dogs. Russel Tchewa, another grad transfer who stands seven-feet tall, leads the team in rebounds, averaging 5.8 per game. The team has averaged 36.3 rebounds per game, an area where Mercer has struggled this season (29.5 per game). |
