
Men’s Soccer Set to Play ETSU in SoCon Semifinals

MACON, Ga. –The Mercer Men's soccer team will travel to Johnson City, Tennessee to battle ETSU on November 5 at Summer-Taylor Stadium at 3 p.m. EST.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
This will be the 26th meeting between these two programs. Mercer is 10-9-6 against ETSU. These two programs meet on October 28 this season where ETSU would find the game winning goal off a corner kick in the final three second of the game increasing their lead to 2-1.
LAST TIME OUT
Mercer moves to 6-5-7 on the season. The Bears would start off attacking earning several corners and set pieces in the first half. Mercer would strike first off the boot of senior midfielder Nick Wanzer in the 30th minute. After a failed clear attempt by a Spartan defender, the ball would end up at the feet of Wanzer who was able to find the bottom right corner of the net. UNCG would find an equalizer in the 40th minute. Â
The Bear's relentless pressure in the second half would prove to be the difference maker. The Bears continued to possess the ball in the Spartans half. The Bears were able to break the Spartan's defense in the 62nd minute when Carlos Santamaria played a ball into a cutting Barzee Blama who heel flicked the ball into the back of the net, increasing the Bears lead to 2-1. The Bears would strike again four minutes later when William Pondeca dispossessed a UNCG midfielder and made a run across the full field and played a crossing ball on the ground which found the foot of Ehi Aimuwu.

The Bucs are 9-5-2 and first in the Southern Conference. Following a first-round bye, ETSU is set to face off against Mercer in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Championship. The Bucs final regular season match was against the Bears where they took home a 2-1 victory in Johnson City, Tennessee. Following the victory over the Bears, the Bucs increased their winning streak to six matches with decisive victories over Furman, Winthrop, VMI, Gardner-Webb, and UNCG.
