Men's Basketball Travels to Chicago State For Road Opener

MACON – The Mercer men's basketball team will travel to the Windy City on Thursday to take on Chicago State in its 2023-24 road opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time (8 p.m. EST) inside the Jones Convocation Center.

| Visiting Clark Atlanta shot 47 percent from the field in both halves and used an 11-2 run early in the second half to pull away for good as the Panthers spoiled the season opener for the Mercer men's basketball team on November 6 with a 71-64 triumph over the Bears. It was the third-straight season-opening loss for the Bears (0-1) who mustered just a 53 percent clip from the free throw line, while also falling on the wrong end of the rebounding battle as well. The triumph served as an exhibition victory for the Panthers who open up their regular season campaign on Friday at Valdosta State. |
| SCOUTING REPORT |
| Chicago State opened their season on Monday at Bowling Green, dropping the contest 70-41. The Cougars and Bears have just one previous matchup at the 2008-09 Chicago Invitational Challenge in Hoffman Estates, Ill. Mercer won the game 88-77. Chicago State's two top scorers from last season will return, including Wesley Cardet who is projected to be a 2024 second-round NBA Draft pick. The Cougars acquired two five-star recruits, Matt and Ryan Bewley, who were ranked No. 2 and No. 12 in the 2023 recruiting rankings. |
