MACON – The Mercer men's basketball team returns to Macon for the first of six home games in the month of December. The Bears (2-5) host South Alabama (4-5) on Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Mercer welcomes local schools to the mid-week game for Education Day. This month's home games will be the last non-conference matchups of the season before Southern Conference play begins starting in the new year.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEARS

Mercer stayed neck-and-neck with Georgia through a tie at 18 points in the first half but slipped to a 13-point halftime deficit. The Bears outscored the Bulldogs by two points in the second half, but shooting only 40 and 50 percent from the field and free throw line, respectively, compared to Georgia's 53 and 71 percent could not close the gap. The Bulldogs also attempted 42 free throws, over four times as many as the Bears (10).

SCOUTING REPORT

South Alabama holds a 4-5 record and is 1-3 on the road. They come to Macon on a two-game losing streak, most recently falling to Maryland and Jacksonville State. The Jaguars are picked to finish seventh out of 14 in the Sun Belt Conference. Three players for the Jags are averaging double-digits in scoring and one more is just below that threshold. Isiah Gaiter leads the team with 15.0 points per game, followed by Julian Margrove (11.2), Maxwell Land (10.1), and Marcus Millender (9.9).

LOOKING AHEAD

The Bears will host Georgia State on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. The game will feature promotions for pediatric cancer organization Go4TheGoal.
