Men's Basketball to Face In-State Rival Georgia State

MACON – The Mercer men's basketball team (2-6) will face Georgia State (4-4) for the season's first Saturday game at Hawkins. This will be the 88th meeting of the two teams, and the Bears lead the series 47-40. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
Mercer coaches will wear special shoelaces in support of Go4TheGoal, Lace Up for Pediatric Cancer, an organization that provides support for children and families battling cancer and provides funding for research.

| Mercer started a six-game home stretch on Dec. 6 against South Alabama. The first few minutes of the game were tight, but a 12-1 run for the Jaguars early in the first half put the Bears in a hole they only fell deeper into as the game went along. The Bears recorded seven blocks--the most in the last 70 games. Amanze Ngumezi led the team in scoring with 13, and Alex Holt came off the bench to add a season-high 10 points. |

| Georgia State sits at .500 (4-4) heading into Saturday's game at Mercer. The team has a 2-3 road record. The Panthers logged a seven-point win at Western Michigan, the team that defeated Mercer by six in the Emerald Coast Classic. Georgia State is picked to finish sixth out of 14 teams in the Sun Belt Conference. Four players for the Panthers are averaging double-digits in scoring--Lucas Taylor (14.0), Toneari Lane (13.3), Jay'Den Turner (11.6), and Dwon Odom (10.9). Turner also leads the team in rebounds with a whopping 8.5 per game. |
