
The Bears Host Eleventh Annual Awards Banquet

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's soccer team held its eleventh annual awards banquet on Saturday, February 25, on campus in the Homer and Ruth Drake Field House
The awards banquet focused on the 2022 fall season that the Bears had in the previous fall which featured a trip to the Southern Conference tournament semifinals. In Economopoulos' eleven years at the helm, the Bears have had ten winning seasons.
Coach Economopoulos started the awards by recognizing Nicole Icen, Ciara Whitely, and Kylie Buchannan for making the Second Team All-Southern Conference team. Followed by Jada Moorman and Lindsay Bell who were named to the All-Freshmen Team. Next, Jada Moorman was recognized for making First-Team All-Southern Conference and being named Freshmen of the Year for the Southern Conference.
The coaching staff also voted on team-based awards, beginning with Newcomer of the Year, which was awarded to Jada Moorman. As a freshman, Jada played in all 20 games and started two of them. She was a vital piece to the bear offense and scored seven goals and had two assists. This offensive production would also help Moorman be named the Teams Offensive player of the year.
The Most Valuable player was given to Lindsay Bell. Bell Started in all 20 games this season and had 94 saves on the year.
Most Improved Player was special because of a two-way tie and awarded to Keelin Pray and Lena Dykes. The award encompassed the entire season, which this year included freshmen from being eligible. The coaching staff began evaluating on the first day of preseason through the final day of the fall campaign.
Jamie Helbec was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Helbec started in 19 games this season and was a vital piece to the Bear's Defense. She also produced one assist during the 2022 season.
Jada Moorman was named Offensive Player of the year. Moorman had 7 goals and 2 assists as a freshman.

The final award, the Bear Award, was awarded to Kylie Buchanan, Pace Stephenson, and Isabella Martinez for their leadership on and off the field.Â
Every senior then delivered an emotional speech thanking their family and friends – spoke to those in attendance and thanked everyone for their unwavering support through the ups and downs of their four or five years of collegiate soccer.Â
Economopoulos ended the evening with a heartfelt thank you to all of those in attendance and finished by discussing details of the 2023 season, which will be announced later in the year.Â
