
Mercer Earns First Win Over Chattanooga Since 2006

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis program (7-6, 1-0) handed Chattanooga (11-3, 0-1) just its third loss of the season, 5-2, in the Bears' first win over the Mocs since 2006. Sunday's match against Western Carolina will now start at 12 p.m.
The Bears won the doubles point to take an early lead behind wins on courts two and three. Mary Weston Courville and Teodora Ristic slid into the second doubles slot to claim a quick 6-1 win over Nicole Abel and Lucia Melendez. After Chattanooga won on court one, Marina de Diego Quinones and Kristin Yordanova clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court three against Rozalie Dohnalova and Callie Billman.
Mercer clinched the win with a 4-0 score line before playing out the match. Courville earned the first singles point after defeating Caroline Gibbens 6-2, 6-4 on court two. Ristic also claimed a straight-set win against Jessie Young 6-3, 6-4 on court one.
Eden Schlagenhauf clinched the match for the Bears on court three with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory over Abel. Yordanova earned the fifth point for Mercer after beating Billman 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-6) on court six.
UP NEXT: Mercer will face Western Carolina at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center on Sunday, March 19 at 12 p.m.
