
Mercer Concludes Non-Conference Slate At East Carolina

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's lacrosse team wraps up its non-conference slate on Saturday as the Bears visit East Carolina. It is the second consecutive American Athletic opponent the Bears will face after playing Florida on Wednesday.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will be the first ever meeting between Mercer and East Carolina.
LAST TIME OUT
The No. 8 Florida Gators scored 11 first half goals on its way to a 15-6 win over Mercer women's lacrosse last Wednesday in Macon.
In the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs over the last three years, the Gators would score the first seven goals of the game before Mercer responded with two of their own.
Florida had 27 shots on goal to Mercer's 18 and had the edge in draw controls with 18 to Mercer's seven. The Gators scored four of their 15 goals from the free position.
Carmella Fischer had one of her best games as a Bear, recording a career-high seven ground balls and six caused turnovers.Â
Last week's Big South Defensive Player of the Week in Emma Pizzo had four draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. All six of Mercer's goals were scored by a different player.Â
SCOUTING EAST CAROLINA
East Carolina comes into Saturday's game with an 8-2 record. The Pirates lost their last game on Wednesday at home to No. 18 Duke, 13-10.
Mercer will be the fifth Big South opponent of the season for the Pirates. ECU has defeated all four of its previous Big South opponents in Radford, Campbell, Furman, and Wofford. ECU has outscored those four teams 68-22.
East Carolina averages 14.00 goals per game, third most in the American Athletic Conference. They lead the conference in shot percentage as they put more than half of their shots on goal at .513 percent for the season.
The Pirates average just 6.20 caused turnovers per game which ranks last in their conference. By comparison, Mercer leads the Big South in caused turnovers per game at 13.00 per game.
ECU's leading goal scorer is senior midfielder Frances Kimel who has 30 goals on the year through 10 games played. She also has 22 assists to give her a team-leading 52 points on the year.
ECU's starting goalie Brynn Kinght has been excellent on the season, with a 7.84 goals against average and a .535 save percentage, both marks lead the AAC and rank second in the country.
