TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Mercer women's tennis program (9-6, 2-0) defeated Florida A&M (7-9, 7-0), 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon to wrap up non-conference play.
The Bears were victorious on all three doubles courts to take a 1-0 lead. Teodora Ristic and Mary Weston Courville teamed up at the first doubles slot, only giving up two games to win 6-2. Camilla Ciaccia and Eden Schlagenhauf clinched the point for Mercer with a 6-3 win on court two. Marina de Diego Quinones and Kristin Yordanova fought to a 7-6 win on court three.
Ristic played a nearly perfect match on court one, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Rebekkah Gaines. On court five, de Diego Quinones won the next point for the Bears with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Genesis Whitelock.
For the match clinching point, Courville won 6-2, 6-2 on court two versus Veronica Rodriguez. Ciaccia claimed the fifth point for Mercer on court four, winning 6-2, 6-3 against Sierra Sandy.
With today's victories, de Diego Quinones and Ristic each notched their eighth singles wins of the season while Courville earned her ninth, leading the team. Ciaccia logged her sixth of the spring. All three doubles pairs have winning records led by Ciaccia/Schlagenhauf at 9-5.
UP NEXT: Mercer returns to Southern Conference action on Friday, March 31 at 3 p.m. in Macon against Samford.
