
Samford Edges Mercer

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis program (9-7, 2-1) narrowly dropped Friday's match against Samford (10-5, 2-1), 4-3. Teodora Ristic and Mary Weston Courville each went 2-0 on the day at the top of the lineup.
The Bears started strong by winning the doubles point. Samford's Cameron Rogin and Olivia Jablonski defeated Marina de Diego Quinones and Kristin Yordanova 6-3 at the third doubles slot, forcing Mercer to win the other two courts. Ristic and Courville finished next on court one, beating Samantha Nanere and Lindsay Song 6-3. Camilla Ciaccia and Eden Schlagenhauf clinched the doubles point for Mercer with a 6-4 win on court two over Alexis Lopez and Lauren Waddles.
Ristic doubled the Bears' lead with a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court one against Lopez. The Bulldogs tied it up with straight-set wins on court six and court three. After dropping the first set on court five, de Diego Quinones forced the second set to a tiebreak but fell 7-5 in the tiebreak, giving Samford its third point.
Courville won the third point for the Bears on court two by beating Ally Hayduk 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. The deciding point came down to Ciaccia versus Song on court four. Song won the first set 7-5, and the second set went to a tiebreak which Song won 7-4 to clinch the match for Samford.
UP NEXT: Mercer plays its final home match of the season on Tuesday, April 4 at 3 p.m. against Wofford.
