Bears Go 2-2 in Birmingham

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears Beach Volleyball team went 2-2 at the UAB Invitational this past Friday and Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama.
FRIDAY, MARCH 31
UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA AT MONROE | 1:00 PM EST
The Mercer Bears fell to ULM 4-1 in their first matches of the weekend.
Lexi Polychrones and Jordan Paddock were defeated by ULM's Adams and Marquez in a three-set match. The score of the first set was 22-20, the score of the second was 19-21, and the score of the final match was 15-11. Nicole O'Mara and Kate Hardie defeated ULM's Blazek and Nowak in two straight sets. The score of the first set was 21-18 and the score for the second set was 21-15. Sydney Benson and Jordyn Thomas-Warren would battle to three sets against ULM's Hoven and Black. The score of the first set was 22-24 in favor of the bears. The score of the second was 21-14, and the score of the final set was 15-12 in favor of ULM. Kathryn Corbett and Alyssa Scoggins would battle and lose a close match against ULM's Reynolds and Williamson in two sets. The score of the first was 23-21 and the score of the second was 22-20. Jordan Morris and Hollis Engel would drop two sets to ULM's Beck and Beck. The score of the first set was 21-15 and the score of the second was 21-16

The Mercer Bears would fall to UAB 4-1 in their second match of the weekend.
Polychrones and Paddock would battle UAB's Copping and Law-Heese and force three sets. The Bears would take the first set 19-21 and UAB would take the second 21-19 and UAB would take the final set by a score of 15-10. O'Mara and Hardie would defeat UAB's Pertuit and Haas in three sets. The score of the first was 21-18 in favor of the bears, the score of the second set was 17-21 and the score of the final set was 15-8. Benson and Thomas-Warren would be defeated by UAB's Ennis and Andraka in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-18 and the score of the second set was 21-16. Corbett and Scoggins were beat by UAB's Pereira and Alexander in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-16 and the score of the second was 21-10. Hollis Engel and Reese Hood would be defeated by UAB's Stant and Chychrun in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-18 and the score of the second was 21-15
SATURDAY, APRIL 1
JACKSONVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY | 11:00 AM EST
The Mercer Bears dominated Jacksonville State University 5-0 in their first matches of day two of the weekend.
Polychrones and Paddock would defeat JSU's Fuell and Quigley in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-12 and the score of the second was also 21-12. O'Mara and Hardie would beat JSU's Danzinger and Wilkinson in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-10 and the score of the second set was 21-9. Benson and Thomas-Warren would win their match against JSU's Schiffli and Lynch in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-15 and the score of the second set was 21-9. Corbett and Scoggins would defeat JSU's Smith and Phenicie. The score of the first set was 21-9 and the score of the second set was 21-7. Engel and Morris would beat JSU's McClure and Amigon in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-7 and the score of the second set was 21-12.
AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY | 4:00 PM EST
The Mercer Bears would defeat Austin Paey State University 4-1 in their final matches of the tournament.
Polychrones and Paddock would be defeated by APSU's Bullington and Mead in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-13 and the score of the second set was 21-15. O'Mara and Hardie would battle against APSU's McDaniel and Powell in three sets. APSU's would take the first set 17-21, Mercer would take the second 21-17 and the bears would take the final set by a score of 15-11. Benson and Thomas-Warren would beat APSU's Seward and Wheat in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-18 and the score of the second set was also 21-18. Corbett and Scoggins would defeat Seyring and Eisenhart by a score of 21-18 in both sets in their match. Engel and Hood would defeat Graham and Smith in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-18 and the score of the second set was 21-17.
UP NEXT: The Bears will host the Bears Beach Bash on Tuesday, April 4 in Macon, Georgia. They Welcome Berry College, Erskine College and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
