
Bears Head North to Face Georgia State

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (24-13, 6-3 SoCon) will play its first road game in three weeks against Georgia State (18-18, 7-8 Sun Belt) on Wednesday, April 19 at 6 p.m.

The two teams met in Macon just over a month ago in which Jozsef Rohrbacher hit a walk-off home run to hand Mercer its eighth-straight win over the Panthers. Mercer leads the all-time series with Georgia State, 74-52.

SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
Since the two teams last met, Georgia State began conference play in the Sun Belt, winning two weekend series and losing three. The Panthers won midweek matchups against Georgia Tech and Middle Tennessee while falling to Georgia and Alabama State. Georgia State plays Georgia Tech away on Tuesday night.

Right-hander Camren Landry earned his first win of the season against Middle Tennessee last Tuesday after striking out seven in five innings while allowing three hits, two runs, and two walks. Landry was the pitcher of record against Alabama State despite only giving up two runs with just one earned. The junior struggled against Georgia, surrendering five runs on three hits and two walks while not recording an out.

With 11 home runs, Luke Boynton leads the team in that mark as over half of his hits are extra base hits. The Panthers rank fifth in the country in home runs (71) and sixth in home runs per game (1.97). Cameron Jones is fourth in the nation for stolen bases this season with 27.

RECENT ACTION
Mercer is coming off a weekend sweep of ETSU spearheaded by nine home runs. Rohrbacher and Toth each hit grand slams on Saturday, and Toth followed this up with two more home runs to reach nine RBI on the weekend. This was Mercer's third sweep of the season and second conference series win. The Bears' pitching staff allowed just seven runs in 25 innings to the Bucs while striking out 17 batters.
