SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Teodora Ristic was named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 11-17. The selection was made by the league office.
Ristic went a combined 4-0 on the week as the Bears fell 4-3 to eventual regular-season champion Furman and closed out the regular season with a 6-1 win over UNCG.
In the match against the Paladins, Ristic teamed up with Mary Weston Courville at the first doubles slot to take down the 71st-ranked pair from Furman, Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder, 6-1. This was the Furman duo's only conference loss of the season. Ristic edged Ellie Schulson at the first singles slot in a tiebreak 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).
On the road against UNCG, Ristic and Courville finished the season on a seven-match winning streak in doubles as the pair beat Arina Babkova and Alexandra Dodashev, 6-4, on court one. In singles, Ristic only dropped two games en route to a 6-2, 6-0 win against Babkova in the first singles slot.
This is the second weekly honor of Ristic's career after she received the award on April 4. Mercer claimed the final three Player of the Week titles of the season as the only school to earn three consecutive honors in women's tennis this season. Three weekly awards in a season are the most for the Bears since 2016.
Mercer begins play in the Southern Conference Championships on Thursday, April 20 at 1 p.m. against Chattanooga at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
