Peguero was a Juco All-American Honorable Mention
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's basketball is excited to announce the addition of Briana Peguero. Peguero joins Mercer after playing at one of the best junior college programs in the country in Athens, Texas, home of the 8-time NJCAA National Champion Trinity Valley Cardinals.
Peguero is from Houston, Texas. She played her high school basketball at Jersey Village High School where she was a First Team All-District player and helped her team win a District Championship in 2019.
Peguero played her first season at Trinity Valley in 2021-22. The Cardinals went 27-7 and finished the season ranked No. 11 in the country. As a freshman, Peguero started in 26 of her 33 games played. She averaged 11.3 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game. She led the team with two steals per game.
This season, Peguero was named an NJCAA DI All-American Honorable Mention and helped lead Trinity Valley to a 34-3 record and a NJCAA Region XIV Championship. Trinity Valley reached the NJCAA National Championship game in which Peguero led the Cardinals with 14 points in the game.
Peguero finished second on the team this season averaging 11.4 points per game. She led the team with 2.7 assists per game and 50 made 3-pointers.
She scored in double-figures in 19 of her 34 games played and had a career-high 22 points in two games.
COACH GARDNER ON BRIANA PEGUERO
"We are incredibly excited to add Briana to our roster. After the season, as a staff, we identified our needs and Briana fits our program exceptionally well. She is a scoring combo guard and is a proven winner. In her sophomore season at TVCC, Bri was named a Juco All-American Honorable Mention. She was an integral part in leading her team to a NJCAA National runner-up finish. She was coached by Precious Ivy and is well prepared to make the move from the Junior College powerhouse to Mercer.
Briana plays with great passion and she is a tenacious defender. She wants the ball in her hands and is a scoring threat as well as distributing the ball. She also comes from a great family, and we are thrilled to have a person that fits our winning culture so well. Bri is a great addition to our team."
