Bears Falls to Charleston in First Round of Sun Belt Conference Tournament

HUNTSVILLE, AL. – Mercer would fall to the College of Charleston 3-1 in their first-round dual of the Sun Belt Conference tournament on Thursday, April 28. Due to inclement weather, Thursday games were to be played till decision, which mean that once a team has clinched a match, the match will end, and any remaining pairs will not be played out.
Hollis Engel and Reese Hood defeated CoC's Avery and Curry in two straight sets. The score of the first set was 21-14 and the score of the second was 21-19. Alyssa Scoggins and Kathryn Corbett were defeated by CoC's Smeltzer and Vogel in two sets. The score of the first set was 18-21, and the score of the second set was 10-21. Sydney Benson and Jordan Morris were beaten by CoC's Zweig and Dougherty in two sets. The score of the first set was 12-21 and the score of the second was 20-22. Nicole O'Mara and Kate Hardie were defeated in three sets by CoC's Falk and Hansen. The score of the first set was 21-9 in favor of the Bears. Charleston would take the second set 20-22 and would also take the third and final set 12-15. O'Mara and Hardie's match would be the deciding factor in the dual which stopped Jordan Paddock and Lexi Polychrones match against CoC's Thompson and Bailey.
UP NEXT: The Bears will battle against The University of Southern Mississippi on Friday, April 28 at 11:30 a.m. EST in Huntsville, Alabama. The winner of this match will go onto play ULM at 2:30 p.m. EST.
