
Mercer Hosts High Point Friday In Big South Semifinals

MACON, Ga. -Â Mercer women's lacrosse welcomes High Point to Five Star Stadium Friday in the Big South Semifinals. Mercer won the Big South regular season title and as a result will host the Big South Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

SERIES HISTORY
Friday will be the 6th all-time meeting between Mercer and High Point. High Point leads the series 3-2 with Mercer winning the last two matchups. The two teams met in Macon this season with Mercer winning 22-6.
LAST TIME OUT
Mercer women's lacrosse defeated Campbell, 14-11 to win the Big South regular season championship last Saturday in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
With the win, the Bears finished the regular season 15-2 overall and went undefeated in Big South play at 9-0. Mercer also went undefeated in games outside of Macon this season, going 9-0 in away games.
In a matchup of the top two teams in the Big South, with the winner earning the No. 1 seed and hosting the Big South Tournament, Mercer came out on top with a big day from senior goalie Kate Vanderlinde.
Vanderlinde made a career-high 13 saves including several saves in key moments of the game. She finished the game with a .542 save percentage and was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week.
Shannon Urey and Gabby DiVirgilio led Mercer offensively as each had hat tricks to pace the Bears. Hannah Lind and Maddi Koury were other Mercer players who scored at least two goals in the game.
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
High Point earned the No. 4 seed in the Big South Tournament after going 7-2 in conference play. High Point's two conference losses this season came to Mercer and Furman who they lost to by a score of 16-15. The Panthers enter Friday's game on a five-game winning streak.
High Point finished fourth in the conference in goals per game at 11.82. They average 21.06 shots on goal per game, third most in the conference. The Panthers do a good job of taking care of the ball as they average 15.53 turnovers per game, the third fewest in the Big South. They rank seventh in the Big South with 12.35 draw controls per game.
High Point's most dangerous threat offensively is Mena Loescher who leads the team in goals, assists, and points. She has 43 goals on the season, fifth most in the Big South. She has 79 points on the year, tied for second most in the Big South with Shannon Urey.
Panthers goalie Taylor Suplee finished the regular season with a 14.27 goals against average and a .358 save percentage.
