
Volleyball Beats Bethune-Cookman in Three Sets

STATESBORO – Mercer Volleyball traveled to Statesboro to face Bethune-Cookman at Georgia Southern just two days after losing to the Eagles at home. The team bounced back in forceful fashion to sweep the Wilcats in three sets.
The Bears dominated the leaderboards with a Mercer player on top in kills, hitting percentage, attacks, digs, assists, and total points. Despite 14 ties and six lead changes in set one, Mercer was not going to let the opposion get any wins.
The Bears host their first conference opponent, Wofford, on September 22 at 6 p.m. at Hawkins Arena in Macon.

SET 1 I 25-23 | It was a fight to the finish in set one, with the largest point gap two points multiple times during the set. There were 14 ties and six lead changes, but Mercer scored first and last to win the set on a Bethune-Cookman error off of a Kiera McCarles serve. |
SET 2 I 25-21 | Set two began with a 4-0 Mercer run, soon extended to 7-1, but Bethune-Cookman rallied back to take the lead 8-9 after a timeout. After regaining the lead at 14-13, Mercer maintained it until the end of the set. |
SET 3 I 25-20 | The Bears scored first again, but the Wildcats took the lead at 1-2 and again at 5-6, which would be their last leads of the match. After taking the lead at 7-6, the Bears took the set and match point on a kill by Kylee Quigley. |
