Bears Get Win in Day Two of Conference Play
9/23/2023 8:11:00 PM | Volleyball
MACON – After both teams entered today off of conference losses the previous night, Mercer got the win tonight to even the conference record to 1-1. The Bears defeated the UNCG Spartans in three sets.
The Bears blocking in tonight's game seemed nearly unbeatable, with the top four block leaders of the match coming from the home team. The game was all Bears in the first two sets, with no lead changes and only one tie, but set in set three, the Spartans made a run and took a four point lead at a score of 15-11. Mercer came out after the final media timeout and finished the set strong to grab the team's first Southern Conference and home win of the season.
The Bears travel to Cullowhee on September 30 to play Western Carolina at 6 p.m.

| MATCH REPLAY | |
| SET 1 I 25-18 | The Bears blocking game was strong from the start tonight, led by a Mykole Morgan and Skyler Bumpers duo. The Bears opened the set with a service ace by Kylee Quigley and kept the lead all the way through. This was Quigley's first of two aces for the set. She scored both the opening and closing points of set 1. |
| SET 2 I 25-9 | Mercer quickly won set two in dominant fashion, keeping the Spartans from even reaching double-digits. Morgan and Bumpers continued their block party, including scoring back to back points off of blocks for points four and five. The set was won on a solo block by Gia Padilla. |
| SET 3 I 25-19 | After rolling through sets 1 and 2, the Bears got a scare when the Spartans gained a 15-11 lead by the media timeout. From that point, Mercer rallied to force a UNCG timeout and end the set on a 14-4 run with final points on a service ace by Kylee Quigley and a block by Lillian Beardsley and Mykole Morgan. |
