
Men's and Women's Cross Country Compete at Historic Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEMÂ - Mercer cross country traveled to Bethlehem, Pa. to race in the Paul Short Run, one of the biggest meets in the country every year. Both teams competed in the Gold division, the most competitive two of the six college races.
Junior Kamila Soja led the women's team, placing 17th out of 393 runners in the Gold race. Her 6k time of 20:42.2 is a PR by just three seconds shy of a minute. She received a top-20 award recognition among nationally-ranked competition at the meet and broke the Mercer 6k cross country record while. Soja was followed by Patrycja Miazek, 145th in 22:07.2, Bri Teegarden, 223rd in 22:37.8, Annette Rodriguez, 317th in 23:29.0, and Olivia Jones, 279th in 23:46.4 to round out the top five for the Bears.Â
Senior Josh Kraver was the first across the line for the men, finishing the 8k in 25:33.3 for 167th place out of 392 runners. Reece Cato finished 243rd in 25:57.9, Yianni Pothoulakis finished 247th in 25:59.8, Jonathan Greene, 283rd in 26:13.3, and Chinmay Dongari, 325th in 26:35.9 for the top five Mercer men.
Head Coach Josh Hayman says, "It was great for our program to get the experience against some highly ranked programs to prepare us for our challenges to come in the next races." He is very proud of the women's competitiveness with solid teams and against their own school records. Hayman says that Kamila has "proven she's ready to compete at the highest level."
The Bears will compete at the USC Upstate Invite at Milliken Research Park in Spartanburg, S.C. on October 14. This will also be the location for the NCAA South Region Championships on November 10.Â
