Women's Soccer Welcomes Mid-Year Enrollees

Bears welcome mid-year enrollees, Marianna Rapani and Alexis Scarpinato
MACON, Ga. - Head coach Tony Economopoulos and the Mercer women's soccer team have welcomed two mid-year enrollees to the program.
Marianna Rapani and Alexis Scarpinato have enrolled and are in Macon for the Spring semester.
Rapani was a member of the 2023 signing class. However, Rapani missed the 2023 season with Mercer as she played with the U19 Greek National Team last fall. Scarpinato transferred from Division II Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia. Scarpinato has two years of eligibility left.
Rapani is a talented midfielder from Greece who plays club soccer with OFI Crete. She also has 13 caps with the U19 Greek National Team. She will bring a wealth of international experience from playing against some of the best players in Europe. Rapani has played in significant matches such as the Euro qualifiers and has played against teams such as England, Wales, and The Netherlands.
"Marianna was supposed to come in this past fall, but due to injury she came in now but we are really excited to have her," said coach Economopoulos. "She's going to bring great speed and some technical prowess in the wide areas of the field so we are excited to have her join our program."
Scarpinato is a forward from Kennesaw, Georgia. She played four seasons at Young Harris College. She was a two-time All-Conference and Third Team All-Region player for the Mountain Lions. Over her four seasons, she finished with 23 goals, seven assists, and 53 points. Scarpinato's 23 goals are the most career goals by any player in Young Harris program history. She is coming off the best season of her career last season as she led Young Harris with 11 goals and 26 points.
"Being able to add the all-time leading goal scorer from a very good D-2 team is exciting for our program," said coach Economopoulos. "She will make an immediate impact on the field and raise our attacking line to new heights."

Rapani, Scarpinato, and the Mercer women's soccer team are preparing for their spring season. The Bears' 2024 spring schedule will be released at a later date.
