SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game between Mercer and ETSU is the 44th all-time meeting between the two programs. Mercer leads the series 23-20. The two teams split their two meetings last season with each team winning on the road.
SCOUTING ETSU
ETSU is coming off a 25-10 season in 2022-23. The Bucs went 9-5 in Southern Conference play and earned the No. 3 seed in the SoCon Tournament.
ETSU is led by second year head coach Brenda Mock Brown. The Bucs were picked as the preseason favorites to win the SoCon by the coaches and picked second by the media.
ETSU enters SoCon play with a 12-4 record and are coming off a 57-40 win over Samford on Thursday. The Bucs are 8-1 at home this season with its lone home defeat coming against Lipscomb. Lipscomb is the only team to have scored 60 or more points on ETSU's home court this season.
ETSU has been much better defensively than offensively this season. The Bucs are allowing the fewest points per game in the SoCon as they allow just 52.4 points per game. However, ETSU is last in the SoCon in scoring at just 58.8 points per game.
ETSU has been a solid rebounding team this season as they rank third in the SoCon with a +4.2 rebounding margin. ETSU's leading scorer is junior guard Naveah Brown. Brown was named Preseason All-Conference and is proving that billing on the court this season by averaging 13.0 points per game. She also leads the team in three-point percentage at 35.4 percent for the year.
Senior center Jakhyia Davis is the team's leading rebounder at 6.9 rebounds per game. She also chips in offensively with 6.5 points per game.
LAST TIME OUT
A tough shooting night, particularly from outside the paint hurt Mercer's chances of securing a win in its SoCon opener as the Bears fell on the road to Chattanooga, 66-57 Wednesday night in McKenzie Arena.
Coming off a career high 26 point game against Kennesaw State, Summah Evansonce again led the Bears in scoring with 14 points and was one rebound shy of another double-double with nine on the night.
Mercer forwards, Stacie Jones and Mackenzie Johnson each had 13 points and shot 50 percent or better from the field as Jones went 5-for-10 and Johnson 5-for-7 (71.3%).
NEED TO KNOW
Mackenzie Johnson was efficient from the floor in her first career SoCon game against Chattanooga. Johnson went 5-for-7 (71.4%) from the field; tied for her best field goal percentage in a game this season.
