
Men's Basketball Faces Chattanooga in Hawkins Arena on Wednesday

MACON – Mercer men's basketball (8-9, 1-3) will host Chattanooga (10-7, 2-2) on Wednesday night in Hawkins Arena. This is the last home game until January 31. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+.
The announced crowd of 3,227 at Saturday's game against Western Carolina in Hawkins Arena is the largest home crowd for the Bears since playing in front of 3,572 fans against Furman on Jan. 29, 2022. The Chattanooga game will be celebrating members of the Macon-Bibb community.

Mercer trailed conference-leading Western Carolina by four points at the half but let the Cats go on an 11-3 run to open the second half. The Bears came within single digits with one minute to go, but the momentum could not beat the clock. Both teams were held under 40 percent shooting from the field, but Western Carolina registered a 51-37 advantage on the boards on Saturday. Mercer has now lost all three conference games when losing the rebounding battle. |

Chattanooga has a 10-7 overall record and is 2-2 in conference play. The Mocs are only 2-5 on the road heading into Wednesday's game in Macon. UTC got an early-season Power Five win at Louisville in front of a crowd of over 10,000. The Mocs have five players averaging double-digits in scoring, with Sam Alexis averaging a double-double (11.7 points, 10.3 rebounds). The team is outscoring its opponents by nearly 10 points per game. Chattanooga was ranked fifth in the SoCon preseason polls and currently sits in fifth place in the conference, three spots ahead of Mercer. |
