ATHENS – Junior Nemanja Stefanovic and newcomer Hod'Abalo Isak Padio both split a pair in the main draw of singles action, while both of MU's doubles tandems pulled off big upsets into the evening hours, as the Bears continued to shine at the Georgia-hosted ITA Southeast Regional on Thursday.
Â
Nemanja Stefanovic/ Marceau Fouilhoux, who eased past Georgia Tech's Rohan Sachdev and Robert Bauer on Wednesday, one-upped themselves on Thursday evening with an 8-7 (7-4) upset of Miami's (Fla.) fifth-seeded duo of Martin Katz and Antonio Prat. Katz was part of the Hurricanes' only nationally-ranked doubles tandem last season.
Â
Padio and Amen Prince Gandonou equaled that task in their doubles tilt with Miami's Nacho Serra Sanchez and Mehdi Sadaoui, ousting the tournament's No. 9 seed by an 8-5 score.
Â
In singles play on Thursday, Padio bested Serra Sanchez by 6-4 and 6-2 scores in his Thursday opener, but was eliminated from the tournament in the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-3 setback to Georgia Southern's Dimitris Paliouras. Stefanovic ousted Florida State's Jan Sebesta 6-4, 6-2 in his morning bout before falling to eighth-seeded Oscar Pinto Sansano of Georgia by 6-4, 6-2 scores later Thursday.
Â
Fouilhoux and Stefanovic will continue their trek through the doubles tournament on Friday when they take on Georgia Southern's ninth-seeded duo of Pol Del Castillo and Dimitris Paliouras. Padio/Gandonou will lock horns with third-seeded Miguel Perez Pena and Sansano from Georgia.
