SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Amen Prince Gandonou breezed through a trio of straight-sets singles victories, including a 6-4, 7-6 decision over UNC Asheville's Daniel Franco Key in the title bout, to claim top honors in the Gold singles draw at the Wofford College Clash on Sunday.
Shingo Masuda and Cameron Douthit highlighted doubles play for the Bears as the tandem advanced all the way through to Sunday's championship of the White draw before falling in a tight 7-6 contest to Wofford's tandem of Valdemar Dubin and Owen Dooley. Dubin and Dooley took the deciding tiebreaker by a 7-2 count.
The event, which signaled the end of the fall portion of the 2025-26 schedule for the Orange & Black, yielded a handful of positives. Mercer amassed five doubles wins across the 3-day event at Wofford's Reeves Tennis Center, including a pair by Gandonou and newcomer Alex Aldaz who rallied back from a loss on Friday to claim honors in the consolation draw.
Gandonou, Aldaz and sophomore Esteban Davila Gasser all posted multiple singles victories in Greenville. Gasser dropped a 15-13 tiebreaker on the way to falling in the championship match of the tournament's Silver draw, while Aldaz rebounded from a loss in his Friday opener with a pair of wins in the consolation draw.
The Bears will be back in action again on Jan. 11, 2026, when they open the spring portion of their 2025-26 slate at Florida State.
