Mercer Succumbs To East Tennessee State In SoCon Semifinals

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Top-seeded and nationally-ranked East Tennessee State yielded just five games to capture a pair of doubles matchups and then registered a trio of straight-sets victories in singles play to oust fourth-seeded Mercer from the 2026 Southern Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon.

The setback snapped the lid on a 10-13 campaign for the Orange & Black – the fourth time in the last six seasons that Mercer has racked up a double-digit win total. It was the 21st-straight victory for the Buccaneers (21-3) who advance to face second-seeded Samford in Saturday's title bout.

Juan Listo yielded just three games in registering a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, and Kai Cowcher followed shortly thereafter with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph on Court No. 3. Carlos Gonzales provided the match-clinching point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.

Senior Nemanja Stefanovic and Amen Prince Gandonou had split their first two sets at Nos. 2 and 4 singles when the match was halted.
