MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will resume the fall portion of its 2026-27 schedule on Wednesday when four Bears make the short trip to Atlanta to compete in the ITA Southeast Regional Championship on Georgia Tech's campus.
Â
Four players – sophomore Raphaël Rousson, junior Shingo Masuda, seniors Nico Niox and Pablo Paternostro – are set to take part in the scheduled 6-day event at GT's Byers Tennis Complex. The doubles tandem of Paternostro/Masuda will open up play for the Bears on Wednesday with an 8:30 a.m. matchup against Kennesaw State's Kyvan Rietkerk/Konstantinos Megalemos, while Niox/Rousson will battle Georgia's James Weber/Noble Renfrow at 9:45 a.m.
Â
Qualifying action for the main draw of the singles tournament begins on Wednesday as well. Rousson, Masuda and Niox are all scheduled to compete in that portion of the event. Paternostro will take on Florida State's Justin Lyons in the opening round of the main draw on Thursday.
Â
Niox (3-0) and Rousson (2-0) both registered unblemished records in singles action at the Mercer Gridiron Classic earlier this month, while Masuda/Paternostro rattled off a trio of victories in doubles action at that event. Niox, a transfer from Texas A&M Corpus Christi, recorded triumphs over competitors from Kennesaw State and Georgia Southern amid his run.
Â
The Bears have two more events remaining on the fall slate – a trip to North Carolina for the Wake Forest Invite later this month (Oct. 23-25), as well as an early-November (Nov. 6-8) date at the Wofford Challenge. Mercer is set to open up its traditional spring schedule on Jan. 16, 2027, against the Florida Gators in Gainesville, Florida.
