
Men’s Tennis Adds Trio For 2026-27 Campaign

MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team began to restock its 2026-27 roster on Friday afternoon with the addition of two transfers and a high-level prep recruit, head coach Eric Hayes announced.

Pablo Paternostro and Nicholas Niox Chateau will make the move to Middle Georgia from Florida Gulf Coast and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, respectively, while Diego Paternostro, the younger brother of Pablo, will transition to the collegiate level after an illustrious prep career in the state of Florida.

Pablo Paternostro, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., has raked in 32 singles victories and 35 doubles wins for the Eagles over the last three seasons, including a dozen victories on the singles court across the 2025-26 season. A 2026 Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team selection last month, he was crowned ASUN Player of the Week in mid-January after registering a perfect performance on the court against Louisiana.

A 4-star recruit (TennisRecruiting.net) and boasting a No. 102 national ranking coming out of high school, he currently boasts a 12.26 Universal Tennis Rating (UTR). Pablo also has a three-sets victory over then-No. 308 Toby Kodat on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour.

Niox Chateau has recorded 26 singles and 10 doubles wins over the last three season for the Islanders, including a 13-6 clip as a sophomore in 2024-25 as TAMUCC cruised to the Southland Conference championship and an NCAA postseason berth. The Paris, France, native, was named Southland Conference Player of the Week in mid-February after registering a 6-2, 6-2 win over UT Rio Grande Valley's Sam Whitehead. The Frenchman currently boasts a 12.1 UTR.

Ranked No. 230 and rated as a 3-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, Diego Paternostro is also listed among the top 30 seniors in the state of Florida as well. He holds a career-best UTR of 10.38, while also boasting six victories on a run through the backdraw of the 2025 Bobby Curtis Singles Championships 16/18, including an upset victory over Noah Bayon who boasted an 11.97 UTR at the time of competition.
