WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sophomore newcomer Raphaël Rousson toughed out a pair of tiebreakers to post a straight-sets win over Xavier's Andrew Spurck in the Flight 4 semifinal round at the Wake Forest Invitational, but had his run stopped with a straight-sets setback to James Madison's Zachary Fleishman in Sunday's championship matchup.
Â
Rousson, a transfer from Flagler, highlighted action for the Mercer men's tennis team with his weekend run that also included a triumph over North Florida's Kyle Piqueras in his weekend opener, as well as an epic 3-set victory over James Madison's Theodor Lorentzon in which he battled back from an opening-set loss.
Â
Six different Bears registered at least one win among a loaded field at the 3-day event in northwestern North Carolina. Junior Alex Aldaz rebounded from a tough Friday loss to register three-straight wins and capture championship laurels in the Flight 4 consolation bracket. His run was capped by a straight-sets win over Charlotte's Danny Yassine in the consolation final.
Â
Junior Cameron Douthit and 5th year player Howell Burns earmarked action for the Bears with a consolation title in the Flight C draw. South Carolina's Atakan Karahan and William Moxon handed the MU duo a 7-5 setback in the weekend opener, but the pair bounced back in the consolation tournament with a tiebreak win over North Carolina A&T's Yonatan Sagiv and Nathan Andre Halahija, as well as a 7-5 triumph over Georgia Southern's Amar Huseinovic and Gregoire Delatrre.
Â
Mercer will cap the fall portion of its 2026-27 schedule, Nov. 6-8, when it heads to Spartanburg, South Carolina, for the Wofford Challenge. The 3-day tournament will be contested at WC's Reeves Tennis Center.
