MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will resume the fall portion of its 2026-27 schedule this weekend when the Bears pack up their show and head to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for the Wake Forest Invitational.
Â
Action at the 3-day tournament is scheduled to get underway on Friday with two rounds of doubles play, as well as one round of singles competition. Eight Bears have been entered to compete at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
Â
The Orange & Black is fresh from competition at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships last week in Atlanta. Newcomer Nico Niox led the way for the Bears with a pair of wins at the event, upending Georgia Southern's Albert Widell and USF's Leo Galliano in the qualifying stage before dropping a 3-set matchup to Florida's Andreas Timini in the main draw.
Â
Niox has amassed a team-best five singles victories to carry the torch for the Bears so far in the fall, while fellow transfer Raphaël Rousson and junior Shingo Masuda have rattled off a trio of wins in singles play. On the doubles court, the tandem of Masuda and newcomer Pablo Paternostro have combined to register three wins, including a pair at the season-opening Mercer Gridiron Classic.
Â
Following this weekend's action in the Tar Heel State, the Bears will put the wraps on their fall schedule, Nov. 6-8, at the Wofford Challenge in Spartanburg, S.C.
