Moorman scored two first half goals
MACON, Ga. – Jada Moorman scored a first half brace and the Mercer Bears rolled to a 3-1 win over The Citadel on Sunday afternoon from Betts Stadium.
The Bears controlled the ball for most of the day and scored three excellent goals on great build up play and finishing. Mercer outshot The Citadel 25-7 and had a 12-3 shots on goal edge as well.
Moorman's first goal of the game came in the 10th minute as Anna Bachman crossed the ball near the end line on the right side. The ball deflected off the fingertips of the Bulldogs goalie and Moorman was there for the rebound to put Mercer up, 1-0.
It didn't take much longer for Moorman to add a second goal as just three minutes later in the 13th minute, Larkin Thomason turned and beat her defender on the right side of the field and sent a cross into the box where Moorman did well to lose her defender and headed the ball back across goal and into the top right corner to double Mercer's lead.
After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, the Bears continued to put pressure on The Citadel's back line. In the 56th minute Keelin Pray faked a shot just outside the box and slid a pass to Sara Engels who took one touch, turned and struck a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner to give the Bears a 3-0 lead.
The Citadel scored a goal in the 81st minute, but it was too little too late for the Bulldogs as Mercer picked up an important three points at home.
