
Bears Over Bulldogs In Friday Night Sweep

MACONÂ - The Mercer volleyball team dominated The Citadel in a Friday night sweep over the Bulldogs. The Bears move to 7-1 in the Southern Conference, remaining in the number one spot and maintaining an overall record of 17-4.
Senior middle blocker Skyler Bumpers led the Bears offense with 16 kills, a season-high for the Mobile Ala. native, and three blocks. Skye Ekes was not far behind, registering 13 kills of her own with an ace and a block. MeMe Davis and Gia Padilla combined for 25 digs and Brooke Phillips tallied 26 assists in the victory.
The Bears return to Hawkins Arena tomorrow night at 7 p.m. to face the Catamounts of Western Carolina University. The match will not be streamed but live stats will be provided by the Mercer athletics department.Â

The Citadel fought back to tie the set 23-23 but was put to a stop after two kills from Skye Ekes to seal the set win. | |
SET 2 I 25-19 | Bumpers and Ekes were lights out for the Bears combining for 11 kills and putting the match out of reach from the Bulldogs at the 20-16 mark. Mercer jumped on the opportunity and closed out the match with kills from Johnson and Ekes. | |
SET 3 I 25-14 | Mercer carried the momentum throughout the entire set completely dominating at the front line, following key digs from MeMe Davis. Abbey Havrilla went on a four-point service run to pull away from The Citadel and set Mercer up for the match win. |
