
Bears Host ETSU, Chattanooga

MACON - The Mercer volleyball team returns to Hawkins Arena this weekend to host ETSU and Chattanooga in the first home conference matchups of the season. The Bears currently sit at 11-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
The Orange & Black traveled to the Carolinas last weekend to face The Citadel and Western Carolina. Mercer dominated in it's 3-1 win over the Bulldogs with multiple Bears posting season-highs. However, the match against Western Carolina was postponed due to damages caused by Hurricane Helene, a makeup date has yet to be discussed.
The Buccaneers of ETSU are also 1-0 in conference play and have maintained an overall record of 9-4. The Bucs defeated fellow SoCon member, UNC Greensboro on Sept. 26 with a score of 3-1. Chattanooga has started off conference play 0-2, falling to Wofford and Samford last weekend but still have an overall winning record of 8-7.
Skye Ekes is coming off of a hot weekend for the Bears, recording a season-high 19 kills against the Bulldogs. Mercer has transfer Brooke Phillips who is now a two-time SoCon Setter of the Week with a total of 498 assists and 129 digs. Phillips also leads Mercer and the SoCon in service aces with an impressive 42 on the season. MeMe Davis leads the defense with 237 digs and Gia Padilla has been consistent all-around posting multiple double-doubles to contribute to the team's historic season. The Bears also currently lead the nation in service aces with a whopping 134.
Mercer will take on ETSU on Friday, Oct. 4 at 6:00 p.m. and will return on Saturday, Oct. 5 to verse Chattanooga at 6:00 p.m. For fans who are not able to make it to Hawkins Arena, both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
