
Bears Head To Chattanooga, ETSU For SoCon Matches

MACON - The Mercer volleyball team trips to Tennessee this weekend to face Chattanooga and ETSU for the second time this season. The Bears continue to hold the number one spot in the conference with a conference record of 8-1 and an overall record of 18-4.
Mercer will start out the trip in Chattanooga, Tenn. to face the Mocs in a Friday night match at 6 p.m. in Maclellan Gym. The two squads faced off in Hawkins Arena on Oct. 5 with the Bears picking up the win in five sets. The Mocs currently sit at sixth in the conference with an overall record of 14-10 and a SoCon record of 4-5 picking up a big 3-0 win over number four ranked Samford on Oct. 26.
The Bears will continue their trek across Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 2, to Johnson City for a match against the Buccaneers of ETSUÂ at 4 p.m.. Most recently, Mercer hosted ETSU in Macon, Ga. on Oct. 4 resulting in the Bears coming away with a 3-1 win over the Bucs. ETSU sits at the top of the conference in third place with a SoCon record of 6-4 and an overall record of 14-8 with losses against Mercer, Chattanooga, Wofford and Samford.
Mercer is currently tied for first place in the NCAA with Saint Francis for total service aces with 191. Leading the charge for the Bears is Brooke Phillips who has 57 on the season, leading the SoCon and has also added 796 assists. Skye Ekes crossed over the 300 kill mark this past weekend, leading the Bears offense with 305 on the season. The freshmen for Mercer have been putting up impressive numbers with MeMe Davis recording 390 digs and averaging 4.64 per set. Middle blocker Lou Johnson has a .305 hitting percentage and 54 total blocks.
Both matches this weekend will be streamed on ESPN+ and will have live stats available provided by their respective athletic departments.
