Lena Dykes scored in the 82nd minute for her first goal of the season
MACON, Ga. – Lena Dykes scored her first goal of the season in the 82nd minute to lift Mercer to a 1-0 win over VMI on Sunday afternoon from Betts Stadium.
The Bears improve to 3-1-1 in conference play and have won each of their last three conference games, all with clean sheets.
It was a dominant performance for the Bears who controlled most of the play and outshot VMI, 28-3. However, the Bears had a tough time finding the back of the net as VMI's goalie, Whitney Tracey made a season high 10 saves in goal for the Keydets.
In the 82nd minute, Mercer had a corner kick which was headed by Maggie Rollins and then headed on by Maria Karipidis. The ball deflected off a VMI defender and found the foot of Lena Dykes who buried her shot in the bottom right corner for what ended up as the game-winning goal for the Bears.
