
Cross Country To Compete At Southern Conference Championships

MACON - The Mercer men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Greenville, S.C. to compete in the Southern Conference Championships on Nov. 2.
The Bears head into championship season with a few personal best times and school records under their belt after their performance at the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Oct. 18 at Texas A&M. Emma James was the top finisher for the Bears in the women's 6K race with a time of 21:38.1 and Yianni Pothoulakis crossed the finish line first for the Bears in the men's 8K with a time of 24:14.6, a new school record. The men's and women's teams both posted new team average school records for the women's 6K and men's 8K with times of 22:01 and 24:52, respectively. Four other Bears on the men's side posted personal best times in the 8K race.
At the 2024 Southern Conference Championships the men's and women's teams placed third and fourth, respectively with the men's three-peat at third being the first in programs history and the women's fourth place finish was the highest in program history. Nikki Harris posted a personal best coming in third place for the Bears with a time of 18:26.9 for the women's team and on the men's side Yianni Pothoulakis placed 19th overall with a time of 25:43.9, finishing first for Mercer.Â
Mercer looks to put an end to Furman's 11-year Southern Conference Championship run this weekend. The men will kick off the day at 10 a.m. for the 8K race and the women's 5K will follow shortly after at 10:45 a.m.
