LAST TIME OUT Mercer shot nearly 60 percent from the field, and scored a single-game program record 125 points on its way to a season opening 125-54 win over Virgnia-Lynchburg Thursday night from Hawkins Arena in what was head coach Ryan Ridder's first career win with the Bears. Mercer had six players score in double figures and all 12 players who saw the court made at least two field goals. Mercer shot 59.8 percent from the field and had 61 bench points to none for Virginia-Lynchburg. |

ABOUT THE BEARS The Bears are led by first-year head coach Ryan Ridder, the 30th head coach in program history, who comes to Macon from UT Martin, where he led the Skyhawks to the 2023-24 OVC regular season title. Coach Ridder has emphasized all offseason that this year's team will be tough, together, and unselfish. The 2024-25 edition of Mercer men's basketball is comprised of three returners and 11 newcomers. Jah Quinones, Alex Holt and TJ Grant return to Macon for the 2024-25 campaign, having served vital roles for the Bears a year ago. Holt posted the highest single-season shooting percentage in program history last season at 65.6%. |

SCOUTING DEPAUL DePaul plays in the Big East and is off to a 2-0 start this season. The Blue Demons won both games at home over Southern Indiana and Prairie View A&M. Like the Bears, DePaul is led by a first year head coach Chris Holtmann who brings over 25 years of coaching experience to DePaul, including 13 as head coach where he has amassed a 251-170 (.596) record and eight postseason appearances. Holtmann had a stretch of 9-straight 20-win seasons and 8-straight NCAA appearances, including five most recently at Ohio State where he tallied a 137-86 (.617) record. Holtmann is a two-time Naismith National Coach of the Year Award Finalist and three-time conference Coach of the Year, including 2017 BIG EAST Coach of the Year. Through the opening two games of the season, DePaul is averaging 86.0 points per game while allowing 68.5. The Blue Demons are shooting 46.4 percent from the field while holding their opponents to 40.5 percent. DePaul's leading scorer is fifth-year senior guard Isaiah Rivera who is in his first year with DePaul. Rivera is averaging 21.0 ppg and is shooting 57.7 percent from the field. |
