Men's Basketball Begins Fort Myers Tip Off On Monday

Bears play on Monday and Tuesday

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer men's basketball team heads to Fort Myers, Florida for the Fort Myers Tip-Off. The Bears will play two games in the tournament, starting on Monday, Nov. 25 against Jacksonville. Tip off on Monday is 1:30 p.m. The Bears will then play either the winner or loser of Miami (OH) and Siena on Tuesday at either 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY Monday's game will be the 55th all-time meeting between Mercer and Jacksonville. The Dolphins lead the all-time series, 31-23. The two teams haven't played against each other since 2014.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite shooting 46 percent from three-point range, Mercer dropped its road game at South Carolina, 84-72 Thursday night from Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina.

Four Mercer players scored in double figures led by Tyler Johnson's 15 points. Johnson connected on 4-of-9 three-pointers as the Bears went 12-for-26 from behind the arc on the night. Forward Alex Holt had a strong night for the Bears recording 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

NEED TO KNOW
The Bears are averaging 10.6 made three-pointers per game. Mercer has made at least 12 three-pointers in four of its first five games of the season

SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE
Jacksonville is led by third-year head coach Jordan Mincy. The Dolphins were picked to finish fifth in the 12-team ASUN conference. Junior guard Robert McCray V was named the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year. McCray earned Third Team All-ASUN honors last season. He has picked up where he left off last season as he ranks sixth in scoring in the ASUN at 16.2 points per game. Jacksonville enters the Fort Myers Tip-Off on a high-note after defeating Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, 74-64.

The Dolphins returned three starters from last year's team and brought back 11 players in total from 2023-24. At 3-2 on the year, Jacksonville's two losses both came on the road at the hands of No. 21 Florida and at SoCon foe, Furman who is currently undefeated so far at 5-0. Jacksonville is averaging 70.4 points per game and allowing just 70.0 points per game. Their scoring defense currently ranks second in the ASUN. The Dolphins have been great on the glass this year as they are averaging 40.8 rebounds per game and lead the ASUN in rebounding margin at +6.6.
