Mercer Continues Surge At Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Marceau Fouilhoux and newcomer Esteban Davila Gasser used a thrilling tiebreak to give Mercer a clean sweep in doubles play against the host Terriers, and then won a quartet of singles matchups to continue its surge at the Wofford Invitational on Saturday.

Amen Prince Gandonou/Hod'Abalo Isak Padio and Shingo Masuda/Tom Hagelauer both surrendered just two games in dispelling of their opponents in doubles play, while Fouilhoux/Davila Gasser rallied in the tiebreak set to complete the doubles sweep.

Gandonou, Hagelauer and Davila Gasser all registered straight-sets wins in singles competition, while Padio toughed out a three-set thriller in the featured singles matchup. The Mercer newcomer tacked up a 6-1 victory in his opening set with Wofford senior Robbie Young, but Young turned the table to post a 6-1 win of his own in the second set. Padio finished off the tilt, however, with an equally as strong 6-1 win in the third and deciding set.

Mercer will close out its portion of play at the Wofford Invitational against South Carolina State on Sunday at the Reeves Tennis Center. Singles play begins at 9:30 a.m., with doubles play scheduled to get underway at approximately 11:30 a.m.
