
Bears Head To Tar Heel State For Battle With UNC Greensboro

MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will continue the road portion of its 2025-26 regular season schedule on Wednesday when the Bears pack up their show and make the long trip to western North Carolina to take on Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro in a high noon matchup at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

The Bears (6-11, 1-2 SoCon) are riding a sudden jolt of momentum following a pair of tight home victories last week, including a comeback win over American Conference foe UAB on Friday. The Orange & Black also got on the board in SoCon play with Sunday's big win over league nemesis Chattanooga at the Copelan Tennis Complex.

The Spartans (6-12, 2-3) are on a hot streak as well and will ride a four-match win streak into the midweek outing with the Bears, including a trio of wins last week. UNCG opened its weekly docket with a 4-3 road win over Campbell, and followed that nailbiter up with 7-0 home shutouts of both North Carolina A&T and Davidson.

Ukrainian-born Tymofiy Khrystyuk is a perfect 5-0 inside league play on Court No. 1 this season and has compiled a 9-4 singles clip during the traditional spring campaign, while fellow senior and Sweden native John Gabelic boasts a team-best 10 singles wins this spring, including an 8-5 clip at No. 2 singles.

The Spartans have also raked in the doubles point in three-straight outings and are led by the No. 1 tandem of Gabelic and senior Devon Moskowitz who have strung together nine wins so far.

Mercer is 9-1 all-time in the decade-old series with UNC Greensboro and will carry a three-match series win streak into Wednesday's meeting in Greensboro. The lone series win for the Spartans was a 5-2 decision on April 7, 2022.
