
Ekes, Bumpers Earn Academic All-District Honors

MACON - College Sports Communicators announced their Volleyball Academic All-District awards on Tuesday afternoon, with seniors Skye Ekes and Skyler Bumpers receiving the distinction for the Bears.
The 2024 Academic All-District Volleyball teams, selected by the CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of their institution's contests played or must start in at least 66 percent of the contests and hold at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 GPA scale.

Senior | Outside Hitter | Sarasota, Fla.
Ekes closed out the 2024 season with 470 kills, averaging 3.81 per set and a .227 hitting percentage. The outside hitter also tallied 37 service aces, 96 digs and 49 blocks, contributing heavily to Mercer's record-breaking total team service aces. The outside hitter recorded double-digit kills in 29 matches including a career-high 21 kills against Chattanooga and UNC Greensboro. Ekes also finished first in the Southern Conference in kills. The Sarasota native was named SoCon Player of the Year and received First Team All-Conference honors.

Bumpers recorded 272 kills throughout the 2024 season with a .304 hitting percentage, tied for the highest on the team. The Mobile, Ala. native also posted 26 aces, 61 digs, and a team-high 85 blocks. She raked in First Team All-Conference accolades following her standout performance throughout the 2024 season and was a one-time SoCon Offensive Player of the Week. Bumpers registered a season-high 21 kills in the SoCon Championship match against Wofford, earning her All-Tournament Team honors.
