
Volleyball Hosts Mercer Invitational

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer volleyball team will host West Georgia, North Dakota and UT Martin this weekend for the Mercer Invitational in Hawkins Arena from Sept.18-20.
Mercer's first match of the weekend will be on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. against West Georgia. The Wolves currently sit at 1-9 on the season with losses against Furman, East Carolina and UNC Wilmington. Their lone win came against fellow SoCon member, UNC Greensboro, on Sept. 13 when they defeated the Spartans 3-2. The Bears return on Friday, Sept. 19 for a match against North Dakota that was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. but has been moved to 6 p.m. The Fighting Hawk have an overall record of 1-7 on the season with a 3-0 win over Idaho on Sept. 13 and losses to Temple, West Virginia and Liberty. The Bears will close out the Mercer Invitational with an afternoon matchup against UT Martin at 1 p.m. The SkyHawks are 1-7 with a 3-2 win over Lamar and losses to Chattanooga, Memphis and Mississippi State.
Key players to lookout for this weekend for the Bears are outside hitters Sophia Henry and Charlotte Thompson who lead the team with 74 and 62 kills, respectively. Sophomore libero Aubri Martin leads the Bears defense with 149 digs and the middle blockers in Joselynn Sanjurjo and Avery Wilks combined for 54 blocks on the season. Jessica Dunn and Sammi Bergjans have split time in the setters position and have posted a combined 252 assists.
All matches at the Mercer Invitational will be free of charge and all Mercer matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
