
Vanderlinde And Walters Earn Big South Player Of The Week Honors

MACON, Ga. - Mercer women's lacrosse goalie Kate Vanderlinde was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week and freshman midfielder Ansley Walters was named Big South Freshman of the Week for the week of Feb. 19-25 as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.
Both Vanderlinde and Walters played significant roles in helping Mercer earn its first win of the season at Davidson last Saturday.
Vanderlinde was stout in goal for the Bears as she had a career high 15 saves. She faced 25 shots on goal for a 60.0 percent save percentage. Vanderlinde also earned the 200th save of her career in the win.Â
Walters posted the first multi-point game of her career with one goal and two assists in the win. The goal was her second in as many games, while her two assists marked the first of her career. Walters also added four draw controls, two ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers out of the nine forced by the Bears in the game. Through Mercer's first two games this season, Walters' four points are fourth most on the team.
