MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team begins SoCon play on Wednesday at Western Carolina in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
The Catamounts and Bears have only faced each other a handful of times with Mercer leading the series 11-3, though there have been six one-point decisions in the series. Last year's matchup in Macon, Ga. resulted in a 4-3 victory in favor of the Bears.
The Bears went 4-3 in conference play last season, finishing tied for third in the SoCon standings. Mercer is coming off a 5-2 win over UConn Sunday in the first ever meeting between the two programs.
Western Carolina is 8-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play so far. The Catamounts lost at ETSU, 7-0 back on February 25.
Western Carolina's Isabella Sambola made her return to the lineup after missing the Catamounts' matchup Appalachian State. The sophomore has posted an undefeated record on the home courts, most recently taking a win in a tiebreaker over Kennesaw State's Taylor Dean. She is 7-5 overall in singles and recently faced the highest-ranked opponent of her career in Wake Forest's No. 28-ranked Casie Wooten but fell on the singles courts.
Sophomore Jade Groen owns the best singles record among Catamount players with an 8-4 record.
First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. eastern on Wednesday. All live scoring can be found on iOnCourt through ITA.
