Bears Drop Match To ETSU

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team suffered its first conference loss of the season on Thursday, falling 7-0 to ETSU in Macon.
The loss snaps a four match win streak for the Bears who were without Marina de Diego Quinones who suffered an injury in the team's last match at Alabama State.
In doubles action, ETSU's Sofia Markova and Alessandra Caceres defeated Mercer's Mariella Minetti and Tea Zivic, 6-1. ETSU's Fernanda Carvajal and Daniela Rivera clinched the doubles point on court one when they defeated Lea Falentin and Emilia Cosatto, 6-3.
The last doubles match went the Bears' way as Kristin Yordanova stepped in to de Diego Quinone's spot as doubles partner with Teodora Ristic. Together they defeated ETSU's Jana Rovira and Ralitsa Alexandrova, 6-2.
The singles matches started with a win on court three as ETSU's Daniela Rivera defeated Mariella Minetti, 6-0, 6-1. Fernanda Carvajal of ETsU defeated Lea Falentin, 6-3, 6-4 to put ETSU one point away from clinching the match.
Ralitsa Alexandrova clinched the match for ETSU when she defeated Lekha Varudandi, 6-1, 6-4. On court one between Teodora Ristic and Sofia Markova of ETSU, the first set went to a tiebreaker which Markova won, 7-6 (4). Markova went on to win the second, 6-4 to make it 5-0 ETSU.
ETSU's Alessandra Caceres defeated Mercer's Tea Zivic, 6-2, 7-5. The last match on court four was the only one to go three sets as ETSU's Jana Rovira defeated Emilia Cosatto, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Mercer's next match is next Friday, March 29 at Wofford.
