
Mercer Hosts Presbyterian In Big South Opener Wednesday

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's lacrosse team welcomes Presbyterian to Macon on Wednesday in the Big South opener for both teams. First draw is at 4 p.m. The first 50 students in attendance will receive a custom Mercer Lacrosse hat.

SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday will be the seventh all-time meeting between Mercer and Presbyterian. Mercer leads the series, 5-1. Mercer won last years meeting in Macon, 20-4.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mercer women's lacrosse team couldn't keep pace with No. 5 Notre Dame as the Irish pulled away for a 20-6 win over the Bears last Sunday.
The two teams were tied after the first quarter, but Notre Dame was able to take control of the game especially in the second half to earn the nonconference win.
Gabby DiVirgilio led Mercer's attack with two goals on the day. Defensively, Caroline Doffermyre and Sarah Leahy each had a team high two caused turnovers for the Bears. In goal, Kate Vanderlinde made some big saves in the first half to keep the Bears in the game through the first half. She finished with 13 saves in the game.
SCOUTINGÂ PRESBYTERIAN
Presbyterian enters Sunday's game with an 1-7Â overall record. Presbyterian is coming off its first win of the season last week when it defeated Central Connecticut, 11-6.
Presbyterian was picked to finish sixth out of nine teams in the preseason Big South poll.
The Blue Hose average 8.6 goals per game and allow 15.5 goals per game. The Blue Hose rank seventh in the Big South in draw controls per game at 10.8 per game.
Presbyterian is led by preseason All-Conference midfielder Willow Hammond who leads the team with 19 points (15G, 4A) on the season. Defensively for the Blue Hose, sophomore Avery West has proven so far this season to be one of the better defenders in the conference as she leads the Big South with 2.38 caused turnovers per game.
Presbyterian has split its starting goalies this season with two different goalies making at least three starts. Sophomore Kayleigh Aitken leads the Blue Hose with a 12.59 goals against average and a .376 save percentage.
