Bears Sweep Day One At UNF Invite, Marsh Earns 50th Win

MACON – Beach volleyball wrapped up day one of the North Florida Invite, defeating New Orleans 3-2 before taking down College of Charleston, 4-1. With their two victories Friday, head coach Josh Marsh has cracked the 50 wins mark at the helm.

In the morning's matchup against New Orleans, the No. 1 pairing of Sydney Benson and Kate Hardie took their match to a three-set affair after dropping the opening frame 12-21. The duo bounced back to take the next two sets, 21-15, 15-13.

The No. 4 pairing of Kathryn Corbett and Liv Diaz defeated Serena Baumgart and Anne Marie Hardouin in straight sets, 21-17, 21-18.

On court two, Nicole O'Mara and Jordan Paddock dropped set one 17-21, but took control over the next two frames, 21-16, 15-9, clinching the dual for the Bears.

Lexi Polychrones and Reese Hood, along with Alyssa Scoggins and Hollis Engel also took their matches to three sets but were unable to fend off the Privateers, dropping court three 17-21, 21-18, 9-15 and court five, 13-21, 21-17, 14-16, respectively.

In their matchup against conference challenger College of Charleston, Sydney Benson and Kate Hardie defeated the Cougars duo 21-19, 21-17, while Kathryn Corbett and Liv Diaz were triumphant on court four, 21-19, 21-13.

Nicole O'Mara and Jordan Paddock once again took their match to a three-set encounter, taking set one 21-19, but CofC forced a third frame after taking the second 21-16. O'Mara and Paddock took the third set in a tightly contested battle, 18-16.

The No. 3 pairing of Lexi Polychrones and Reese Hood dropped the opening frame 18-21 but were able to secure the win after taking the next two sets 21-16, 15-5.

The Bears return to the sand tomorrow, taking on North Florida at 10:00 a.m., before wrapping up the event against UAB at 2:00 p.m.
