Bears Wrap Up Successful UNF Invite

MACON – Beach volleyball wrapped up the North Florida Invite Saturday, falling to the hosts 5-0 before defeating UAB 3-2.

Despite strong efforts on courts four and five, the Ospreys were too much for the Bears to overcome. Liv Diaz and Kathryn Corbett dominated set one, 21-14, but dropped the next two frames 12-21, 6-15.

Alyssa Scoggins and Hollis Engel also took their match to a three-set affair, dropping the first frame 9-21, but recovered to take the second, 21-19. The duo rallied in the third, but it wasn't enough to overtake Iris Fletcher and Katie Camp, falling 9-15.

The Bears bounced back against the Blazers in the afternoon matchup, with two pairings defeating their opponents in straight sets.

On court three, Lexi Polychrones and Reese Hood defeated Brooke Pertuit and Madeline Sigmon 21-18, 21-19, while Liv Diaz and Kathryn Corbett took control on court four, winning their match 21-17, 24-22.

Alyssa Scoggins and Hollis Engel also took their match to three sets, opening with a 21-18 victory before dropping the second frame 16-21. The duo was able to seal the deal for the Bears, taking the third set 16-14.

Nicole O'Mara and Jordan Paddock took the opening frame on court two, 21-16, but the Blazers took the next two frames 22-20, 15-13.

The Bears are now preparing for the Palmetto Invitational hosted by South Carolina. Mercer will face Morehead State, UT Martin, UNC Wilmington, and the Gamecocks.
